LEADERSHIP COACHING FOR FOUNDERS
Stop carrying the business on your own
Build a team that can make decisions, take ownership and deliver without everything depending on you.
You built the business by being the person who solved problems, protected standards and made things happen. But as the company grows, that strength can become the constraint. Decisions wait for you. Difficult conversations find their way back to you. People have job titles, but you still carry the responsibility.
I help founders make the transition from driving the business personally to leading a team capable of driving it with them.
A free practical guide to identifying where your business still depends too heavily on you.
The business has grown but your role has not changed enough
When the company was smaller, being involved in everything was useful. You knew the clients, understood the work and could step in whenever something went wrong. Your speed and judgement helped the business survive.
Growth changes the job. You can no longer be the answer to every question, the final check on every decision and the person who rescues every difficult situation. Yet stepping back can feel risky when the team does not consistently demonstrate the judgement, confidence or accountability you need.
You may recognise some of these signs:
Important decisions stall until you are available.
You delegate work, but responsibility returns when the situation becomes difficult.
Standards slip when you are not closely involved.
Managers report problems without proposing or owning solutions.
You avoid giving complete ownership because fixing mistakes feels faster.
Your time is consumed by delivery, leaving too little space for strategy and growth.
You are surrounded by people but still feel that the business rests on your shoulders.
This is not necessarily a motivation problem or a sign that you hired the wrong people. Often, the business has outgrown the leadership habits that helped create it.
You do not need to care less about the business
You need to lead it differently.
The answer is not simply to “delegate more.” A handoff will not hold if people lack clarity, authority, capability or feedback. When those foundations are missing, responsibility comes back to the founder as soon as a decision becomes expensive, uncertain or uncomfortable.
The real work is to make ownership clear, build the judgement of your leaders and create a rhythm of accountability that does not depend on you chasing everyone.
What needs to change
I help founders develop five practical leadership disciplines:
1. Set the direction
Give people a clear understanding of where the business is going, what matters now and what good performance looks like.
2. Ask before you tell
Stop being the automatic source of every answer. Use better questions to develop judgement, ownership and independent thinking.
3.Create leaders
Build two or three people who can make decisions, coach others and close important loops when you are not in the room.
4. Let people learn
Allow appropriate mistakes without abandoning standards. Review what happened, capture the lesson and improve the next decision.
5. Hold people accountable
Agree clear commitments, follow up consistently and deal with missed expectations before frustration becomes resentment.
These are simple ideas, but they are not always easy to apply when payroll, clients, reputation and growth are at stake. That is where focused leadership coaching becomes useful.
How leadership coaching helps
Leadership coaching gives you a confidential place to slow the situation down, separate the real problem from the immediate noise and decide what you will do differently.
My role is not to tell you how to run your company. I help you think clearly, challenge patterns that keep the business dependent on you, share practical frameworks and hold you accountable for applying them.
Our work can include:
Clarifying the direction and priorities of the business.
Defining decision rights and genuine ownership.
Delegating outcomes rather than passing over isolated tasks.
Developing managers and future leaders.
Improving feedback and difficult conversations.
Addressing underperformance early and fairly.
Creating accountability without micromanagement.
Leading yourself more effectively under pressure.
Making space for strategy, growth and the work only you can do.
A practical 12-week coaching programme
The programme starts by defining two or three measurable business and leadership outcomes. We establish what needs to be different by the end of the 12 weeks—not simply what you want to learn.
During the first five weeks, we build the foundations: direction, feedback, capability, coaching and self-leadership. At the halfway point, we review what has changed and where you remain stuck. The second half is tailored around the live leadership and business challenges you are facing.
Every coaching conversation ends with a clear commitment. Accountability continues between sessions through a simple weekly rhythm: set the goal, take action, reflect, learn and go again.
By the end of the programme, you will also have a practical 90-day Game Plan for continuing the work.
What success can look like
The aim is not to remove you from a business that still needs your leadership. It is to stop the company depending on your constant intervention.
You should begin to see:
A team that understands the direction and current priorities.
Clearer ownership of decisions and outcomes.
Managers who bring considered recommendations, not just problems.
More direct and timely feedback.
Fewer issues escalating unnecessarily to you.
Greater confidence in the people leading key areas.
More time for strategy, relationships and growth.
A business that can perform when you are not in every room.

Frequently asked questions
What is a leadership coach for founders?
A leadership coach for founders helps business owners make the transition from personally driving results to leading other people who can take ownership and deliver them. The work can cover direction, delegation, accountability, difficult conversations, decision-making, team development and the personal pressure of leading a growing company.
When should a founder consider leadership coaching?
Coaching can be particularly useful when the business has grown but important decisions, client issues and performance problems still depend on the founder. Other signs include repeatedly taking work back, struggling to hold managers accountable, lacking time for strategy or feeling unable to step away without standards falling.
Is this business coaching or leadership coaching?
The focus is leadership, but it takes place in the reality of your business. We may work on strategy, hiring, priorities or team structure when those issues affect your ability to lead. The purpose is not to provide generic business advice; it is to help you make better leadership decisions and build a more capable team.
Will you tell me how to run my company?
No. You understand your market, customers and company better than an outside coach. I will ask direct questions, challenge your assumptions, share relevant frameworks and experience, and hold you accountable for the changes you decide to make.
What happens during the 12-week programme?
We begin by agreeing measurable outcomes. The first five weeks cover direction, feedback, team capability, coaching and self-leadership. Week six is a progress review. Weeks seven to eleven focus on your live challenges, and week twelve measures progress and creates your next 90-day Game Plan.
Is the programme suitable for a first-time founder?
Yes, provided you already lead people and have real leadership situations to work through. It is particularly relevant when your expertise helped build the business but you have had little formal preparation for leading a growing team.
Can you work with founders outside the UK?
Yes. Andrew Sillitoe is based in Prague and works with founders and leaders internationally through online coaching.
